The university entrance exam for undergraduates is very significant and mentally draining for every single public university aspirants. This period also known as the admission phase. Around 270000 to 300000 students participate in the university admission tests in Bangladesh. There are only around 6000 seats in Dhaka university alone in Dhaka. which makes the acceptance rate of the university to be 2.5% only which is less than Harvard or MIT aka the top universities in the world. which is crazy to think because according to QS world global university ranking 2024, it is ranked at 691-700. Around 50 students compete for one place at this university. the same goes for engineering or business schools as well.

Every year, students from all around Bangladesh sit for these public university exams only to secure a seat for themselves and have a bright future. But in this short period of time, the stress and self doubting thoughts take away a part of them that they can never get back. the people around them, from their parents to relatives keep telling them that if they don’t get into a public university they can’t prosper in life at all. Which not only is a negative thought process but it also is not true. Yes, one exam might hold a lot of dreams and hope for one, but we need to remember, even if it doesn’t work out, an entrance exam isn’t the end of the world.
Many students often get demotivated and because of not getting into a public university and the negative environment and taunts around them decide to take their own life. people need to stop judging one’s ability and talent by a test. At the end of the day, a skilled person is more valuable regardless of their university. we need to be kinder and softer towards those students who even after giving their best couldn’t crack the test because at the end of the day its just a test and doesn’t define the person.
